1) Eligibility Requirements

Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is typically required.
License Requirement: Most states require 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience.
Ethics Examination: Some states mandate the successful completion of an ethics exam.
Residency Requirements: Certain jurisdictions may require candidates to be residents.

2) Exam Structure:

The CMA certification requires passing two exam parts:

Number of Questions:
- Each part contains:
  - 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  - 2 essay questions
Time Allocation:
- Total duration for each part: 4 hours
  - 3 hours for MCQs
  - 1 hour for essay questions

3) Marking Scheme:

Scoring:
- Each part is scored on a scale of 0 to 500.
- The passing score for each part is 360.
Weightage:
- MCQs contribute 75% to the total score.
- Essay questions contribute 25% to the total score.

Exam Progression:

Candidates must answer at least 50% of the MCQs correctly to advance to the essay section. Failing to meet this threshold results in an automatic failure of that exam part.

IMA Membership Fee:

Exam Fee (per part):

Certified CMAs are also required to pay a $30 annual renewal fee and report 30 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) annually.

6) Course Duration:

The CMA program is flexible, allowing candidates to complete both exam parts within a timeframe that suits them. On average, candidates complete the program within 6 to 9 months. The IMA provides a maximum of three years to pass both parts after registration.
